It Begins... May 28th, 2017
Alright, first blog post of the trip! I
have to say, waking up super early to make sure we made it to the airport by
4AM had me a bit concerned at first. Nobody truly wants to get up that early,
and it can turn even the most chipper person a bit sour. But everyone rallied
behind each other and we all had a very pleasant morning! We made jokes that
were hardly funny, but due to the exhaustion we all felt had some of us laughing
until we cried. We weren’t going to let the early morning get the best of us!
Both the flight to Atlanta, and the subsequent flight to Guatemala City passed
without incident, a relief to all after the long day. After getting through
customs we made our way outside where our technicians José and Pedro-Miguel
helped pack all our stuff and whisked us away to Finca La Loma, the hotel we’d
spend a majority of our week in. Upon arrival we were stunned to see the
sprawling complex of interconnected hotel rooms scattered about a large
beautiful estate filled with blooming flowers and amazingly built structures.
After finding our rooms and getting settled we spent the remainder of the
evening touring around the incredible hotel and taking in the sites. We ended
our day with a short devotion, focused on the importance of patience. This
theme had guided us safely and happily through the day, keeping us moving ever
forward towards our goals. Tonight we end early, most exhausted from the long
day of travel. We rest up now, so that we will be energized in the morning and may
finally get out and begin doing the work we came here to do. I’m not really
sure how to end blog posts, so I’ll simply wish you all reading this a blessed
day. I would also like to extend a thank you to any and all that donated to
this cause who might also be reading this. Your donations have allowed us to
make an even greater impact while here for our short period of time, and will
greatly improve the lives of those we are here to help. Thank you so much!
Signing off for the evening – Robert Lee
